Police are hunting for a site engineer of a single-storied building that collapsed in Bweyogerere on Wednesday evening.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the building collapsed at around 4:00 pm. “No death or injuries registered, the site engineer is however on the run.”

At the time of the collapse, there were over 20 workers who were pouring the next slab for the next floor.

“They probably knew it was going to collapse anytime, am told they were pouring slab for the next floor and it started to show signs of collapse, they all stopped working and got off the building and watched from a distance as their shoddy work collapsed,” Owoyesigyire added.

By press time police were still at the scene controlling the heavy flow of jam that the collapsed building had caused along the Jinja-Kampala Highway.

This is the second building to collapse within the greater Kampala Metropolitan Area within the last three months. In September this year six people were killed after a building collapsed in Kisenyi.

Local authorities attributed the collapse to hurried building and poor mixture of the necessary building materials.
