Prof. Patrick Ogwang, the Director of Jena herbal Medicine company Ltd, has collaborated with Soroti University to develop the herbal research Centre within the university.

This was arrived at on Thursday, October 14, when different herbalists led by Prof. Ogwang met at the university to help generate ideas on how the university can come up with the best herbal research centre.

According to Prof. Ogwang, his company will work together with the university to come up with a botanical garden, where different herbal plants will be planted so that it eases research on the medicinal plants with the advice of different herbalists.

He further urged the scientists and the locals to embrace the project since it will help in discovering different hidden plants that can be used as medicine after carrying intensive research on them.

Meanwhile, the University spokesperson, Juma Hassan Nyene, said the university has allocated 10 acres of land meant for the establishment of a botanical garden.

"The garden will make the university develop a herbal research centre which will support the school of pharmacy," he added.

Different District Health Officers hailing from Teso who were in attendance welcomed the initiative.

Dr. Nicholas Okwana, a former District Health Officer in Soroti said a herbal centre is relevant and the idea should not be ignored.
