31 children in Luzira Prison – Prison boss

The Principle Officer Luzira Women’s Prison, Leah Apwoyo has revealed that there are 31 children with their mothers in Luzira Women’s Prison.

She made the revelation on Friday while receiving items for inmates worth sh2.5m from members of Kampala Victoria- Luzira Lions Club.

The essentials donated by the club include soap, sugar, sodas, toilet papers and baby clothes.

Tasked by the press to explain how they take care of the children, Apwoyo said, “Let’s stop there.”

The event kicked off with matching led by Luzira Prison’s band and club members from Luzira Women’s Prisons, Port bell road through Quality Chemicals and back to the Prison.

From there, Lions Club members proceeded to Silver Springs Hotel, where they launched a new cudgel in celebration.

The Lions Club president, Alex Kakoraki said it is important to help women in prison and their children.

He committed to support prisoners and the surrounding communities, saying the role of the club is to serve communities.

 

Launching the new club, the District’s Governor Lion’s Club-Uganda, Sedrace Rwekikiga advised its members to serve communities.

“The core value of lions is to serve. Therefore, we should become volunteers and serve people fairly, and help them,” she said.
