Africa U-17 Championship qualifiers

Rwanda 2 Uganda 3
(Uganda advances 7-2 on aggregate)

Uganda Cubs coach Matia Lule has warned Botswana and Zambia to expect a stiffer encounter in the final qualifying stage of the Africa U-17 Championship when they meet in the third round next month.

Uganda Cubs beat neighbours Rwanda Wasps 3-2 in the return leg of the qualifiers on Friday to advance 7-2 on aggregate and book a third round fixture against either Botswana or Zambia. The two are due to go in for a decider on Saturday with Zambia leading 1-0 from the first leg victory.

“I congratulate all the boys for their adherence to my advise. I am sure the boys are capable of playing anyone next. Indeed, we don’t care be it Zambia or Botswana,” an excited Uganda Cubs tactician Matia Lule said on Friday.

Lule’s son Charles Sebutinde opened the scores with his third consecutive goal in the Cubs third match in the 31st minute before Julius Poloto doubled the lead in the 43rd minute to end the first half 2-0.

Rwanda came from behind to level the scores with a double from Rachid Bigirineza but it was Mohammed Shaban's goal in the 74th minute that nailed the Cubs’ home and away victory at Umuganda Stadium, Kabavu.

The team is expected back in Kampala on Monday.
