Two Wakaliga accident victims discharged

Two victims of the horrific fatal accident that occured on Sunday have been discharged from Mulago National referral hospital.

Enock Kusasira, Mulago hospital spokesperson, said two, out of eight people that were admitted were discharged. He added that some however are in critical condition.

“We are trying hard to give them enough treatment to improve their lives,” he said.

Wakaliga road was a scene of horror Sunday morning when a grisly accident claimed over ten people and 14 others were seriously injured following a head on collision between near Ivy’s Hotel in Kampala.

According to the eye witnesses, a Fuso truck that was loaded with sacks of coffee beans failed to brake and rammed into a Pickup before bumping a commuter taxi and bodaboda that were heading to Kampala from Nateete off the road.

“The Fuso was coming from town. It lost control and the driver failed to brake so he ended up running into a taxi that was heading to Kampala,” explained Wakaliga zone 1 LCI chairperson Prossy Namande.

Namade said eight bodies were removed from the wreckage of the taxi.

Just last Sunday morning two people died instantly when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with bus along Jinja highway.

The smaller car-a Nadia – carrying the two men rammed into a Modern Coast Bus headed for Nairobi Mombasa at around 6:00am local time, a witness said.


Last month, Luweero police on Thursday identified the four people who were killed in a crash involving a Bank of Uganda bullion van and a tipper at Wobulenzi on the Kampala-Gulu highway.

The Wednesday accident occurred at around 2:30pm local time (EAT) when the truck rammed into the van that was heading in the opposite direction.


The four people killed were occupants of the truck which was damaged beyond recognition.

In November, a Tata lorry carrying collided with a commuter taxi and killed four people on spot and ten others were rushed to hospital with broken limbs and deep cuts.

The 7:30am local time (EAT) accident happened at Kakiri junction on Friday along the Jinja-Bugiri highway.
