Kajara County MP Stephen Tashobya has been elected the new national chairman of the Uganda Red Cross Society in Uganda. He replaces the embattled former chairman Robert Sebunya.

Tashobya is deputised by Dr. Lari while Dr. Nankya Mbidde is the treasurer.

Tashobya told Vision Group's Radio West shortly after the election, that restoring the confidence of the Red Cross Society stakeholders  is high on the new leadership’s agenda.

He pledged to closely work with the investigating officers to rid the humanitarian organization of any corrupt officials.

Currently, several officials of the Uganda Red Cross are under investigations over abuse of office after it emerged that they might have been smuggling in goods under the pretext of humanitarian aid.
