A 13-year old boy has made a statement at Kajjansi police station that he witnessed singer Jose Chameleone and his crew torture a man in his compound before they set fire on him.
Robert Karamagi succumbed to severe burns in Mulago referral hospital where he was rushed when he reportedly torched himself after unsuccessfully attempting to pour what he claimed was acid on the singer’s wife, Daniella Mayanja. This was according to a statement made by Daniella.
The boy whose identity has been kept out of the media claimed in his statement that on the morning on December 26 he was peeping through Chameleone’s gate when he saw the singer and his crew strip Karamagi and torture him as he cried for help, before they poured something on him and torched him.
He said as he watched Chameleone saw him and asked him what he was doing there. He then climbed a mango tree nearby and continued to watch as Karamagi was being tortured.
The boy further said Karamagi then attempted to climb the wall and jump over but they dragged him back in and put out the fire using his clothes. They later called the Police that whisked him to hospital in handcuffs.
Police however have said they are still assessing these claims and would go back to the scene where the boy claims he saw what transpired to corroborate his statement.
The boy’s father has also claimed that they fear for their lives after it was revealed that his son had witnessed Karamagi’s torture.
He said he has received several anonymous phone calls threatening him and his family. He added that some bodaboda cyclists once attempted to kidnap the boy. He also noted that he cannot tell whether the boy witnessed anything because he was not there.
