Parents of students of Mbale Secondary School have threatened to stop paying fees if the parents teachers association (PTA) fails to implement the proposed projects.
The parents accused the PTA executive committee and the school administration of stalling implementation of school projects aimed at improving the academic performance and social welfare of the students.
Among the projects is the construction of a classroom block, which they said had failed to take off from the foundation, yet the school fees were increased to cater for the same.
They said other problems included lack of furniture and text books in the library, shortage of water in the labs and of computer equipment.
The issues were raised on Saturday during the annual general meeting.
Parents said despite the large number of 3,000 students, the school had only one bed in the sick bay and no doctor or nurse.
However, the PTA chairman, Canon Andrew Nyote, said, “We have enough funds to pay the contractor, but it seems he has other commitments. We shall have to set up a committee to intervene. if he does not comply, we may have to terminate his services and find someone else.”
