GIRL CHILD
KAMPALA-Uganda Women Parliamentary Association Chairperson Hon. Nasiyo Pamela urged ladies to desist from taking photographs when naked and sending them to there spouses or men in order to safeguard there dignity.
This was on the sidelines of the official release of the State of World Girl child report at the Plan International Uganda offices in Bugolobi on Wednesday.
"Sometimes when you send these photos to your men's phones, they are not even the ones who share them but there other lovers who could have access to these phones and are jealous of your beauty and body so they share them to embarrass you," she said.
Hon. Nasiyo who was the Chief Guest at the function emphasised that even when your lover insists and demands you send them nude pictures of yourself, desist and say a big no because you do not know whose hands they may end up in.
"It could be your parents, your children or even relatives and imagine the embarrassment it will cause not only you but them as well," she said.

Commenting on the report which highlighted the challenge posed by the way media and film influences girls and women stereotypes, Women's Activist Irene Kagoya urged the media fraternity to cover and highlight more positive and model stories for women in order to encourage young girls to work harder.
She said when young women watch and read about successful ladies like Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga the Speaker of Parliament, they are inspired to work harder so as to become accomplished people like the Speaker.
Media should also have more ladies in editorial and key contributing positions so as to balance the narrative and have more feminine success stories being reported and aired in media. "Currently most senior positions in media houses are inhabited by men and they direct the narrative which many times pushes women and there issues to the sidelines," she said.
This will ensure women and there issues are portrayed positively and at the centre of media coverage giving a more balanced picture of society she added.
The report was launched ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child which is to be commemorated on the 11th of October 2019 having been gazetted by the United Nations back in 2011 as the day when the girl child will be celebrated globally.
Over 10,000 voices from 19 countries across the world including Uganda are included in the report highlighting the diverse issues, culture and economic status of girls captured in the report.
