Three hospitalised after bee attack in Masindi

MASINDI - Three men are in hospital after they were attacked by a swarm of bees in Masindi district.

The victims, who include a crime preventer attached to Masindi Police Station, faced the wrath of the insects near Fill More fuel station near Masindi town Thursday.

Silas Basemire, the officer in charge of Masindi Police Station, said the bees first swarmed on John Baryehitsya, who was walking to Masindi town from Kijura.

But as other pedetrians tried to free him from the angry stingers, they turned on them as well. One of them was crime preventer Kabalega and another unidentified man believed to be in his 70s.

Other people managed to flee.

The three victims, however, were stung several times to the point of being unconsious, before being taken to Masindi General Hospital by a man only named as Ben.

From his hospital bed, 69-year-old Barehitsya said he was walking to town when he came under a fierce attack by the swarm.

They stung his all over his body.

It is not clear what the degree of injuries is, but the doctors at the health facility trust the bee attack victims will recover.
