Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) has organized a rapid chess tournament in Jinja as part of their efforts to promote the sport in the country.

According to the general Secretary Henry Ategeka, the event is also aimed at bringing together Jinja chess players.

"Our struggle to spread the game of chess continues. The rapid tournament in Jinja is one of our many moves to spread the game to as many regions as possible," said Ategeka.

"It  also emphasizes happiness, socializing, encouraging and letting our Jinja players know that we appreciate their presence in the chess community, and given there's a dedicated team playing in the league. It is also important to bring tournaments their home town."
