Africa Netball Championship: Uganda faces Zimbabwe

2017 AFRICA NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Wednesday fixture

Uganda v Zimbabwe

KAMPALA - Zimbabwe came from behind to narrowly defeat Zambia by 59-58 and now set their sights on Uganda today afternoon at the Lugogo Arena in Kampala.

The match was Zambia's to lose at the beginning of the fourth quarter and indeed they crumbled under pressure.

Zimbabwe went on a scoring spree and Zambia's centre became quite error-prone at the tail-end of the match which dearly cost them the match that was firmly in their hands.

Goal shooter Pauline Jani had a seamless fourth quarter and is the reason her team came through the tight affair.

Against hosts She Cranes, Zimbabwe will have to lead from the word go because the Ugandan side have made good teams like Malawi pay for slight errors.

The result against Zambia helped put the defending champions back in contention for the 2017 title but they have to be wary of the threat the Cranes pose in attack and transition.

Peace Proscovia has not put a foot wrong in all the matches she has been involved in. The Ugandan skipper has out-lipped most of her opponents and the Gems have to pay attention to her threat.

Zimbabwe defensive pair of Kwangwa Felistas and Kandandara Christine can't afford a lapse in concentration.

Dealing with the goal shooter is one thing but Racheal Nanyonga and Hadijja Nakabuye are both lethal in goal attack -- either one of the two, if started, can dismantle any team.

The Zimbabweans have been lucky enough to verse all their other opponents with neutral crowds but come Wednesday afternoon, the crowd will be the equivalent of walking a cat through a room full of dogs.

Malawi lived through it but the heckling, boos and cheers for any positive play by the She Cranes can tip even the largest ship at sea.

For their effort, the second best team on the continent left the arena with their tails between their legs.

If Zimbabwe is lucky enough, they will have the other teams rooting for them. The possibility is there, only if the She Cranes don't turn up.

If Uganda takes an early lead then it will all head south for them this afternoon.
