Confirmed: Idd el-Fitir tomorrow

“I wish all Muslims a happy idd-el-Fitri but celebrate it in line with the Islamic teachings,” Kakungulu said.

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has this evening confirmed the sighting of the moon, marking the end of the fasting of the holy month of Ramadhan by Muslims.

This means that Idd el-fitir festival which is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslim will therefore be celebrated tomorrow Sunday, June, 25, 2017. 

The announcement has been made by the UMSC Director of Sharia Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Kakungulu.

"I take this opportunity to inform the Muslim community that the moon has been sighted and therefore Idd el-Fitir will be celebrated tomorrow (Sunday)," he said.

Kakungulu also congratulated all Muslims upon fasting and successfully completing the holy month of Ramadhan.

"I wish all Muslims a happy idd-el-Fitri but celebrate it in line with the Islamic teachings," Kakungulu said.

Before the day of Eid, during the last few days of Ramadan, each Muslim family gives a determined amount as a donation to the poor.   

He also appeals to all those who fasted to pay Zakatul-Fitri before the Eid prayers and to fast the six days of Shawwal.

At the National Mosque - UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala, Eid-El-Fitri prayers will be observed at 9:00am and they will be led by His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje. 

You are advised to come early and to park your vehicles outside the National Mosque perimeter as usual.

You are also requested to cooperate with security personnel because they are there for your own good.  ​
