Ajok qualifies for World Athletics Championships

Dorcus Ajok finally got her cherished moment on Wednesday night when she qualified for the World Athletics Championships.

She clocked 2:00.78 at the XIII edition of the Ibero-American Athletics meeting in Huelva, Spain to win her 800m race. The previous week she had come within 29 microseconds of hitting the qualifying mark (2:01.00) at the Belfort Montbeliard meeting in France.

Her qualification brought to 16 the number of Ugandans who have booked a ticket to the Worlds scheduled for August 5-13 in London.

Nanyondo pushing hard

National 800m record (1:58.63) holder Winnie Nanyondo has a chance to hit the qualifying standard for the London competition on Saturday at the Seventh National Trial and Central Region Championship.

The races open on Saturday morning at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, Wakiso district.

On the same day, another group of athletes will be competing at the Mayank Track and Field Championships in Arua.
