FUFA mourns Ivorian footballer Cheick Tiote

Ugandan soccer governing body FUFA has sent a condolence message to the Ivory Coast FA following the death of their player Cheick Ismaël Tiote which occurred on Monday.

The 30-year-old star collapsed during training with his club Beijing Enterprises FC in China and died later in hospital.

He was part of the Ivory Coast team that won the 2015 AFCON final hosted in Equatorial Guinea. After that triumph, he retired from international football.

"We all know what he could offer on the pitch. African football has lost a giant of a player who made life difficult for his opponents on the pitch in the midfield. He was always full of commitment, focus and passion whenever given chance to play," said FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo in his tribute.

"Our condolences go out to the Ivory Coast Football Federation following the loss of a player who was hugely followed by football fans around the world, including Uganda".
