KAMPALA - It's said that a basketball game is dependant on the players' momentum. And a thrilling end-to-end game between Ndejje Angels and Sharing Youth in the National Basketball League just proved it.
If it swings your way at the right time, you can easily walk off the court a happy side and the opposite is true.
Ndejje's 66-67 loss to the Sharing Youth Wednesday evening at YMCA was a reflection of how momentum shift can change a basketball game.
During the first quarter of the game, Sharing struggled to execute on offensive end as Ndejje, through Innocent Ochera, Gauthiera Baderiha and Katumba Derrick, paced Coach Raymond Muhumuza's side to a four-point lead.
The Sharing squad however chipped away on that by half time to trail two points and only added four points five minutes into the fourth quarter( 46-39) in a then seven-point game in favor of the Ndejje Angels.
But with the several lead and tie changes, by the end of the fourth quarter, the dual had tied at 56 points to push the game into overtime.
Sharing's turning point came with Emma Okumu's three point shot and a free throw at 4:24 into overtime to push Muhumuza's boys to control the game 56-60.
The Nsambya-based team did not look back and only stayed on course to grab a first victory into the new season.
With one minute on the clock, the Sharing were leading the game by six points (66-60), making it so hard for their opponets to penetrate a tight defence.
Ndejje's fate was sealed at 11 seconds on the clock as they failed to score as the Sharing side won the game by a small margin of only one point.
Tong Gatwetch led his side to victory as he scored in double figures with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Stephan Otoa and Okumu added 15 and 12 points respectively.
