Patient sues Norvik Hospital over sexual molestation

She contended that a gynecologist at Norvik Hospital, who examined her, recommended her for urine test and a pelvic scan.

A woman, who sought medical consultation, but allegedly ended up being grossly abused by a laboratory technician, has dragged Norvik Hospital and Research Centre Limited, seeking punitive compensation of sh300m.

Sharon Nalule, who filed her plaint in court through Fredrick Francis & Associates Advocates, contended that upon experiencing abdominal pain in 2016, she went for medical consultations from the hospital's experts.

She contended that Dr Simon Nuwagaba, a gynecologist at Norvik Hospital, who examined her, recommended her for urine test and a pelvic scan. A laboratory technician took the necessary samples from her and was instructed to wait for the results as she lay in the hospital lawn out the hospital.

Nalule alleged further that as she was waiting, the same laboratory technician came for her, claiming that the first tests had not shown any results and that it was necessary for him to carry out further tests.

She alleged that upon reaching where more tests were supposed to be carried out, she was under belief that the second tests were part of the tests that had previously recommended. But, this time the technician, she came to know by name as Roger, instructed her to lie on her back onto the bed, remove her knicker with her legs spread apart, which she innocently complied with.

The laboratory technician then reportedly started pushing his fingers rigorously in and out of her private part (vagina). She started feeling excruciating pain and she started bleeding profusely. She complained, but the laboratory technician did not stop, claiming that what he was doing was in her best interest and that she should only imagine as if she was having sex, a thing that was degrading her.

According to Nalule's plaint, as if that was not enough for the technician, he shamelessly also popped her breasts, pretending that he was helping her to relax. After fulfilling his immoral desires, he later provided her with some tissues to clean herself.

Nalule alleged that she complained to Dr Nuwagaba and later made a statement to the Police.

The hospital when contacted declined to give an official comment on the matter.

The court registrar Alex Ajiji has since summoned the hospital to file its defence against the case within 15 days
