Nakasongola gets agricultural college

Mrs. Museveni said Uganda had so much to learn from the Korean people

Koreans have embarked on a USD8m project to establish an international agricultural college in Nakasongola District.

The training complex whose ground breaking ceremony was performed in Nakasongola District over the weekend, is to train agriculturalists in Uganda and the East African region.

The implementation is being undertaken by Seohyun Foundation, a Korean Missionary NGO that is headed by its founder Dr. Lee Hyunsoo who is also the brainchild behind the project.

The first lady and minister for education and sports, Janet Museveni who was represented by the State Minister for Higher education, J.C.Muyingo, lauded the Koreans for choosing to establish the institution  in Uganda and investing in training the youths as entrepreneurial farmers.

Mrs.Museveni said in her speech that was read for her by the State Minister for Higher Education, J.C.Muyingo that the proposed Nakasongola based Agricultural College could enable  Uganda realize its agricultural potential  and dream to become the food basket of the East African Region.

The grandiose ground breaking ceremony which was held at the proposed site at Livingstone farm near Nakasongola town was attended by the South Korean Ambassador, Park Jong Dae, officials of the Korean community in Uganda, scientists and Nakasongola District officials.

Mrs. Museveni said Uganda had so much to learn from the Korean people and pledged to assist Seohyun Foundation achieve realization of the project.

The South Korean Ambassador, Park Jong Dae said the project was aimed at providing well trained Ugandan agriculturalists in line with the country's vision 2040.

The Ambassador said the Koreans aspired to improve the quality of agriculture in the country through training the youths as entrepreneur farmers and transfer of Korean agricultural knowledge know-how to Uganda.

Park said at the function that the proposed Agricultural College would bring in Korean retiree Agricultural professors who will work
alongside local staff and the training would be based on the experiences of advanced countries, in terms of skills, and mindset
change.
