Students used to be very aggressive

The introduction of patriotism in tertiary institutions and secondary schools in Teso has been cited as one of the factors that have led to improvement of students' behaviour in terms of discipline.

This was declared by Deo Seburimage the principal officer in charge of education information and communication at the National Secretariat for Patriotism in the Office of the President while addressing students at Soroti Comprehensive Nursing School today.

He said in early 2000, many tertiary and secondary schools students liked to truck because they were not empowered on community service.

Seburimage said students used to be very aggressive but with the current government clubs like patriotism in schools, there has been a big transformation towards community service.

He added that in patriotism clubs students are taught how to love one another and avoid secretariatism and corruption among others.

"Students should get interested in patriotism as a club because they will be empowered in ways of transforming leadership in their schools and the communities where they live in" Seburimage added.

Seburimage explained that government is not about to give up on the upbringing of the young generation to help them understand how to be better people that can change the next generation.

Filbert Ocailap the Soroti Resident District Commissioner commended government for introducing such clubs in schools.

He emphasized the need for government to introduce more clubs aimed at bringing teachers from various institutions together.
