NRM announces roadmap for Tororo LC5 chairperson seat

The seat fell vacant following the death of former LC5 chairperson Apollo Jaramogi which occurred in January this year.

The NRM Electoral Commission (EC) has set May 22 for its party primaries for the Tororo district LC5 chairperson.

The seat fell vacant following the death of former LC5 chairperson Apollo Jaramogi which occurred in January this year.

Jaramogi, who defected from Forum for Democratic Change to NRM, died at St. Francis Nsambya hospital where he was rushed for treatment.

Speaking at a press conference at the party offices in Kampala on Wednesday, Dr. Tanga Odoi the NRM EC chairperson said joint campaigns for the seat will kick off within the given time frame.

However after the briefing, he said any interested parties were free to pick nomination forms between April 26 and May 3.

"I am warning all aspiring candidates and other interested parties to refrain from engaging in any form of campaigns until the gazetted time as laid out in the roadmap," Odoi said.

He said anyone wishing to contest for the above position must be between 30-75 years of age, born or a resident in the electoral area, verified O and A level certificates or their equivalent and must pay a non-refundable 'expression' of interest or nomination fee of sh1m, among other requirements.
