Solar training project launched

The government of Germany has pledged to support Uganda to increase access to energy. This was revealed at the official launch of solar training equipment for experimental learning of the solar energy in the region.

Up to 95 % of population use traditional solid fuels for heating, lighting and cooking, which has encouraged massive environmental harm thus must be reduced through using alternative means like solar energy and bio gas respectively at relatively low expenses.

According to Udo Weber, the cooperation head, less than 20% of the region's population is connected to power grid. The demand for electricity also exceeds supply significantly, thus the community should embrace solar energy, which is less costly and can be afforded by anyone regardless of the income.

The launch ceremony was held at Ndejje University, Luweero district on Tuesday.

Weber said their commitment to increasing access to solar energy in many institutions in Uganda was a sign of good collaboration between donors and the Government of Uganda mainly to equip the industrial sector with enough resources so as to manufacture more products without any challenges.

Germany is providing technical expertise with the help of Uganda engineers in place to make sure solar is embraced to save the environment. The Germany ambassador representative Udo Weber, called for proper maintenance of the facilities.
