Cash-strapped national boxing seeks funds

Uganda Boxing Federation is seeking support to prepare the national boxing team "The Bombers" for the African Boxing Championship slated for May 27 to June 4 in Congo Brazzaville.

Speaking to the NewVision, the public relations officer, Fred Kavuma said despite support from Betway, the boxers still need more support since the money needed for the preparations is much and the period of training is long.

"We are happy Betway has so far paid part of their pledge towards the preparations by giving us some food. The food is approximately 10% of our entire budget," Kavuma added.

"Betway gave us 100kgs of posho , beans 50kgs, sugar 50kgs, salt 10kgs and water but still the items are not enough to take us throughout the campaign. Some balanced diet is needed," said Kavuma.

He said that their Sh220M budget is not a small issue and the federation needs to fund the boxers well in order to have better performance in Brazzaville.
