FMU Challenge Rally: 37 confirm participation

The FMU Challenge Rally is the third round of the National Rally Championship.

Over 37 rally drivers have so far confirmed participation in the FMU Challenge Rally due April 28-30 in Busiika, Luweero and Kayunga districts.

Clerk of the Course (COC) Cedric Buzabo disclosed this on Tuesday at the launch of the rally which will have the super special stage in Busiika on Saturday and competitive sections in Kayunga on Sunday.

Among the drivers that have confirmed participation include Omar Mayanja, Kuku Ranjit, Dr. Ashraf Ahmed, Christakis Fitidis, Desh Kananura, Ismail Ortega, Ronald Ssebuguzi, and Ambrose Byona.

The 340.42km event with 135.7km transport , 172.59km competitive will have four sections of which Kitimbwa (9km) will not be repeated.

But Bbale (7km), Kitwe (16km) will be done thrice and Nakyesa (21km) four times.

The FMU Challenge Rally is the third round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) and will be followed by the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in June which doubles as ARC event in the same area.

Buzabo explained that the event will have a one-run double circuit at Busiika.

"It is going to be a challenging event because we have a lot of turns and no long stretches."

According to Buzabo, the new changes set up that include bringing the flying finish near the main road are meant to avoid spectators walking long distances inside the routes and improving on safety.
