Excel Soccer Academy has established a partnership with Paris Saint-Germain FC following their participation in the Dubai Super Cup last week.
After an unsuccessful outing in the Dubai Super Cup where they won three matches before being disqualified, the youngsters were destined to play in other tour friendship matches against AS Roma and their PSG counterparts.
Here they did not disappoint beating PSG 5-2 in the U-12 friendship cup final to return home with the trophy and medals. The team was welcomed back at Entebbe Airport on Easter Sunday by a group of parents and relatives of the team members.
"In the Dubai Super Cup, they realized we had good players and they unfairly disqualified us claiming we had overage players but we played against PSG and won," Excel Academy team captain George Baitwa said.
Excel Academy coach Patrick Gwayambadde said their preparation for the Dubai tournament was deterred because their team was split and travelled in two batches because of visa issues.
"By the time the last group came in the tournament had already started but in the end it was good for them to play against quality opposition and eventually win something," Gwayambadde noted.
"PSG coaches will be coming here to conduct clinics because I convinced them that there is even more talent back home. But first we are sending three of our boys to the PSG youth tournament in France next month; it has been a good trip as they have learnt a lot and strengthened their relationships as players," Gwayambadde stated.
He said the team has as a result of their performance been invited to many other tournaments but they could travel for the PSG tournament.
Now in its 7th year, the Dubai International Super Cup attracted teams from 17 countries from across the world.
