The disease presents symptoms similar to foot and mouth disease

Cattle farmers in Angagura Sub County in Pader district have been hit by a strange cattle disease that has killed ten herds in a period of one week.

The disease affected cattle belonging to Okot Twenye in Te Kalawinya, Lapaya village in Angagura.

The sub county LC5 Councillor, Dickson Ojok said the disease started from Okot Twenye's kraal where over 100 Ankole cattle were brought from central  and western Uganda.

He said the disease presents symptoms similar to foot and mouth disease.

"We have restricted sale of meat and other products in Angagura Sub County due to the outbreak of this disease and put out an order that any cattle that dies from the strange disease should not be eaten," he remarked.

Ojok said they are also burning the meat from the cattle that are dying from the disease.

Pader District Veterinary Officer, Dr. Robert Okeny said he was not aware of the outbreak of strange cattle disease, but promised to visit Angagura

Okeny advised farmers to isolate the affected animals to avoid further spread.
