Hundreds grace global mentoring walk

The walk was organised by CEDA international a non-profit making NGO specializing in education, leadership and mentoring

Hundreds of people especially females from various schools, female managers, women from public and private institutions among others on Saturday graced the global mentoring walk that was aimed at acknowledging the contribution of women in the socio-economic transformation of the society.

The walk was organised by CEDA international a non-profit making NGO specializing in education, leadership and mentoring .The walk started as early as 7:00am and later there was a reception at Kitante Primary School, Kampala.

The Buganda Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga lauded women for their continued efforts in shaping the moral standards of societies arguing that its high time men acknowledge that the role of women is not only producing children and carrying out domestic work.

"For every country to develop, women must be developed on board," he said warning men to desist from luring young girls with small gifts like pocket money and end up impregnating them or infecting them with HIV.

Mayiga hailed the role of CSO's in rising voices on what they think is not right. He revealed that recently, the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi asked men to take a lead in fight against AIDS and mobilization has already started.

At the ceremony, several women with outstanding contribution in different spheres of life such as protection of environment, education, economic empowerment among others were awarded with medals.

Mayiga was also awarded for his role in fighting issues that affect women in Buganda such as domestic violence.

 

 



Esther Namboka,an activist asked gov't to raise more funds in women programmes like UWEP so that more get access to finance. She also said government should provide enough platforms that women use to advocate for their rights.
