FDC refutes Besigye, Museveni dialogue

We want a public dialogue involving all Ugandans with an agreed agenda and a neutral facilitator.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has described reports on President Yoweri Museveni and FDC's former presidential flagbearer, Col. Kizza Besigye talks as lies and baseless only meant to tarnish the party's name.

The party's deputy secretary general, Harold Kaija told journalists at the party's headquarters in Kampala during the weekly press briefing, that no talks and agreement has ever been reached.

"That is a lie! Besigye has not accepted any dialogue with President Museveni. There is no agreement as far as we know. It is just propaganda which has been going on; initiated by some people for their own interests," he added.

He noted that FDC is not against any dialogue but must be in line with their conditions.

"We want a public dialogue involving all Ugandans with an agreed agenda and a neutral facilitator.  As FDC and Col. Besigye, we are not in any secret talks with Museveni," he added.

Speaking at same briefing, Kaija said FDC continues to demand for an independent audit on the recently concluded elections to know the truth.

"It is now a year after the former Electoral Commission chairman, Badru Kiggundu, announced results. This is a day for mourning and we cannot forget it. But we are also working towards achieving our goals to make sure the record is put right," he said.
