A 20-year-old woman in Iganga district has been arrested after she confessed to biting off the ear of a woman she suspected of having an affair with her husband.

Racheal Namuganza, who resides in Nampirika ville in Nakalama sub-county told police the woman she attacked was the reason her husband would stay away from home for weeks.

A resident who witnessed the attack said the accused, in the company of four other women, ambushed Babirye on her way back home. She was carrying a jerrycan of water.

Namuganza then attacked her and bit off her whole right ear before leaving the victim on the ground with blood gushing out from where her ear used to be.

Bosco Kayuyu, the area local council chairman, said the accused thought Babirye was the cause of her husband's absence from home for a long time.

"She would always complain that whenever her husband returned back home he would complain of

Namuganza admitted to biting off the victim's ear, claiming she had always suspected her of having an affair with her lover.

Speaking from her hospital bed, the woman who was attacker shared a different angle.

"That man always comes to buy groundnuts from me and that's how we started chatting with him but I have never fallen in love with him," said Babirye.

Police was called up to the scene and immediately arrested Namuganza and rushed Babirye to Iganga main hospital in critical condition.

The accused, due to appear in court, faces charges of causing grievous harm to a person.
