Fourteen new faces get a chance to prove their capabilities to the coach

National team coach Amos Kamya has a rich cast to choose the national team from after the national team qualifiers that ended at Kitante on Wednesday.

Fourteen new faces get a chance to prove their capabilities to the coach after making it through the qualifiers that attracted 85 participants.

The twenty include five of the experienced members of the team that defended the East African Challenge in Ethiopia, last year.

Team captain Becca Mwanja, Joseph Cwinya-ai, Ronald Rugumayo, Ronald Otile and Daniel Baguma all made it through the 54-hole competition qualifiers played over two days.

Conspicuously missing is Martin Ochaya and Rodwell Gaita who were on the team last year but didn't make it through.

Mwanja led the qualifiers with a gross score of 219 (78, 70, 71) with Herman Mutebi who was a reserve on last year's team finishing second, a stroke below on 220 (78, 71, 71).

Experienced team members Daniel Baguma (221), Ronald Rugumayo (221) and Ronald Otile (222) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively with youngster Edrine Okong (225), who represented Uganda at the Junior Open in Scotland qualifying in 6th position.

The new faces that will continue fighting for places with the top players include; Henry Ssali, Emma Ogwang, Joseph Kasozi, Abraham Ainamani, Nickson Ambovi, Patrick Anziku, Grace Kasango and  Samuel Kato.

Five national junior players that include David Kamulindwa, Morris Ashaba, Dennis Asaba, and Joel Basalaine also qualified and will now continue with preparations for the All Africa Junior Championship and the British Open where one of them will represent.

Other competitions lined up for the team include; the All Africa Championship (seniors), the Zone V1, the Victoria Cup and the East African challenge that will be played in Arusha.
