The Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura (pictured) has ordered for the arrest of the DPC of Sheema district SP Innocent Mubangizi over misuse of power.

Mubangizi is subsequently charged with criminal negligence, aiding and abating crime.

According to police spokesman AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, "there is evidence that SP Mubangizi misused his powers to release a one Ponsiano Rwakataka who had been apprehended on grounds of smuggling immature fish".

Lwakataka had been arrested "following a high-speed chase of the truck that was carrying immature fish".

The former rally driver "remains a prime suspect and will be re-arrested and charged with smuggling of immature fish and threatening violence with a fire arm", says Kaweesi.

As a result, it is understood that Rwakataka's private firearm certificate has been revoked.

"Police assures the public that it shall continue to emphasize professional standards, cooperate and support all relevant agencies in the enforcement of law and order."
