The monotonous wave of land grabbing happening to sports facilities in the different parts of the country is not about to spare the Kiwafu recreational ground in Entebbe Municipal Council.

The local leaders of the municipality have decided to relocate market vendors to the ground, also home to former super league side Entebbe FC.

Aggrieved members of the community, especially the youth in the area, believe this intended occupation of the field will be detrimental to the essential development of the talented young people in the community.

In a bid to avert the takeover they have, through their lawyers Nalukoola and Kakeeto Advocates warned the municipality to stop the ‘impugned activities' and communicate the same within seven days or face legal action.

In a letter to the Entebbe Town Clerk on January 19, 2017, the lawyers wrote, "we are instructed to demand as we hereby do that you halt the impugned activities and communicate to us in that regard within 7 days from the date of receipt here of short of which we shall institute proceedings against thy local government in the high court of Uganda seeking among others remedies of a permanent injunction restraining your Local Government from infringing on the rights of the youths."

Sulaiman Jjuuko Walugembe, Emmanuel Sseguya, Samuel Batambira and Ahmed Kizito are spearheading the fight against the municipality.

They feel that in the Council's bid to try and help the vendors, they are denying other members of the community grounds that act as green spaces that help with keeping the environment healthy.

The pitch has served as a recreational ground for Kiwafu Primary School and many youth in the community have successfully accessed it to brush up their skills.

Current Cranes internationals Murushid Jjuko, Robert Odonkara, Denis Iguma and Benjamin Ochan had their talents nurtured at the same ground.
