Pemba Warriors issue NBL warning

Jan 23, 2017

It's the kind of statement that will immediately attract the attention of the NBL, if not necessarily faith.

The Pemba Warriors have a message for the City Oilers dynasty - 'we are coming after you'.

"Our aim this year is to win it all," revealed Warriors supremo Ambrose Tashobya. "There is no two ways about it."

It's the kind of statement that will immediately attract the attention of the NBL, if not necessarily faith.

Still, it's not in Tashobya's character to issue false alarms, meaning the Warriors will, at the very least, have a stronger roaster come the 2017 season.

"In two weeks, we shall unveil our plans in public, including new players and the person who will be appointed to coach the team," Tashobya elucidated.

In other words, one year after Jack Pemba's cash-fuelled revolution, the Warriors are ready to challenge newly-crowned Oilers, who will start the 2017 NBL campaign as heavy favourites, once again.

The Warriors were the last team to win a championship before the Oilers embarked on their unprecedented title run that shows little sign of coming to an end.

Two of the Oilers championships have come on the back of a Finals Game 7 while the other two were the outcome of a 4-0 and 4-1 Finals series wins.

Still, what counts is the 4-0 title record in their four years in the NBL and it remains to be seen whether a Warriors team that needs a number of considerable upgrades can pull it off. Stopping the Oilers is a puzzle that tests opponents at every level of organisation, from the playing staff, coaching unit to the club management.

Put differently, the Warriors first port call is to make an accurate assessment of just what exactly is needed "to win it all", lest they make changes that are unnecessary.
