The IAAF World Cross Country Championships are set to take place in Kampala on 26th March
There was little surprise as the Uganda Athletics Federation technical committee named the preliminary team for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships set to take place at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala on 26th March.
The technical committee named a team of 36 athletes, eight from each category, who will be training to ensure that Uganda leaves a mark at the biennial event.
According to Faustino Kiwa, the head of competitions of the event and also head of technical in Uganda, the team basically had the top eight including former Olympic and World marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich and Juliet Chekwel , Uganda's top female performer at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
"In athletics, it is all about competition and performance and if you do not make the cut, then you are out of the team. These ones will battle for the six slots available for the final team" said Kiwa.
