President Yoweri Museveni is one of the millions of Ugandans watching events in Gabon with bated breath.

In a show of solidarity, the president took time off his busy schedule to wish Uganda Cranes well in their match against Ghana and also urged Ugandans to support the National team.

In a twitter message, the president said:  "Countrymen and women, let's rally behind the Uganda Cranes as they begin their quest for continental glory today. Good luck!"

The president added: "As we embark on this momentous occasion of representing your country, I encourage you to focus and keep your eye on the prize. Your presence at Afcon is well deserved."

Museveni's message comes hours before Uganda meets Ghana. Uganda last participated at AFCON 39 years ago.
