World Cross Country: 'We can pull it off' - Museveni

Jan 13, 2017

"Let us show that we are capable of doing and presenting something good."

Education and sports minister, First Lady Janet Museveni believes that Uganda can put up a great show at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships if all parties work together and put in all their efforts.

She met the local organising committee of the event at State House Entebbe, during which she called on the team to give their whole to the event so that it's a success.

"Let us show that we are capable of doing and presenting something good and I will try my level best to support you all the way," she told the committee.

Minister Museveni noted with concern the urgency of speeding up the works ahead of the March 26 event at Kololo Independence grounds.

There will be a test run on Saturday (January 14) at the same venue where the top Ugandan runners will be battling for national team places.

Moses Kipsiro, Stephen Kiprotich and Joshua Cheptegei are among the elite crop that will compete in the national event.

"It's a big event and we need to do it well to prove to the visitors that are coming that we are good at preparing for them by organising well and leaving a legacy," said Janet Museveni, who is also the chair of the board for the event.

Earlier, she had been briefed by State minister for sports Charles Bakkabulindi of the developments at Kololo including the modification of the venue and how Uganda has been promoted on different events across the globe.
