Police in Katwe have arrested three suspected notorious criminals who they accuse of terrorizing people in the city.

The suspects were arrested following a police operation in Lubaga and Makindye division in which 50 criminals were netted.

Katwe Police Station Division Police Commander Frantile Lwamusayi said the operations last week followed public outcry over the increasing criminality in the area.

"We have been getting many reports of burglary, robbery and assaults. At times people get stabbed or hit by the iron bar hitmen on their way back home at night," he said.

"We used our crime preventers to gather information about the criminals and where they operate. That is how we managed to arrest them," he added.

Lwamusayi said people arrested include three suspected hardcore criminals who have been on their wanted list.

The three were identified as; Edward Lugolobi 30, a resident of Kabowa , Musa Kalule 25, (Kitebi) and Sulaiman Nabambula 18, from Ndeeba a Kampala suburb.

Police said the three have been involved in a number of burglaries in the area. The suspects were arrested from Kabowa, Wankulukuku, Ndeeba and Katwe.
