Soroti hospital lacks special needs specialists

Soroti Regional Referral Hospital administration is concerned over lack of special needs specialists in treating people with disabilities especially deaf expectant mothers.


Sr. Alice Epako said communicating with such mothers is a big challenge as the hospital lacks specialists in sign language.

Although the hospital receives less of such cases, Sr. Epako noted that it an issue which has to be attended to.

Jane Alum, the Soroti district councillor representing women with disabilities said observed the need to look into provision of special needs specialists.

"Issues of disability have been given less priority during most district budgetary allocations," she said.
