Mary Sendi declares interest to run for EALA seat

Dec 19, 2016

“I want to concentrate on advancing the interests of Ugandans in EALA."

Mary Sendi, who was a candidate in the Busiro East parliamentary race in the 2016 general elections, has declared her interest to run for an EALA seat.

The East African Legislative Assembly is the legislative arm of the East African Community.

Sendi plans to contest on the NRM ticket in very competitive elections slated for early next year and already, she says she is canvassing for support and making consultations with key NRM members and other stakeholders.

"I want to concentrate on advancing the interests of Ugandans in EALA especially trade, HIV/AIDS prevention, and health and security matters," she said.

"I will also deliberate on how the developments of East Africans can be enhanced, especially development, unity in diversity and fast-tracking other issues."

Uganda is well represented in the regional parliament, with most notably Daniel Kidega being the current speaker - a position he assumed in 2014 from fellow Ugandan Margaret Zziwa.

The EALA MP hopeful says she hopes to work towards economic empowerment especially trading and economic policies that promote investment in the country.

Sendi also says she brings vast experience from the ministry of health where she has worked for over 25 years in health promotion and advocacy.

Sendi contested in the Busiro South race but lost to incumbent Medard Sseggona
