300 Karamoja people to face eviction

Oct 25, 2016

The eviction will start with rent defaulters.

Moroto Municipal authorities have announced plans to evict as many as 300 people occupying their houses at Junior Quarters and other residences.

The town clerk of Moroto Municipality, Alex Felix Majeme, said the move is intended to improve on the state of the structures which have dilapidated sanitary facilities.

He said the eviction will start with rent defaulters who, according to him, are "many".

Moroto Municipality has 94 housing units accommodating mostly employees within the Municipality and the district, plus some few staff from other districts of Karamoja especially Napak.

The eviction date has not yet been fixed but the authorities say they are finalizing with the required procedures to effect the plan.
