Gayaza old girls fundraise for Sherborne

"Put up your hand if your kamwaka is here tonight?" said Brian Mulondo, the MC at the Gayaza Old Girls' ball last week.

A kamwaka is a term to refer to the girl in S2 who basically showed an S1 the ropes.

And there was a lot of excitement as different people saw girls they had not seen in decades. It was nostalgic and heart-warming to see women from various walks of life unleashing the Gayaza girl they had sort of tucked away for the perfect moment.

There were screeches and screams and hugs all around, from the moment one stepped out of the lift and onto the veranda of the banquet hall at the Gold Course Hotel on Saturday night.

A lot must be said about the organisers - the class of 1989 - and the way they pulled it off. It was not hard to see that under the chairmanship of Immaculate Kasaija, the proprietor of Pamper Zone, their vibrancy and enthusiasm literally filled the atmosphere. Not to mention Mulondo's co-MC, Magaret Lukowe's passion. She is also from the class of 1989.

The ball was put together to raise different funds for the school, among them, completion of the school staff room and the renovation of the HSC block at Sherborne because that is where the head girl and deputy reside.

When the dinner and dance was opened, the girls really got down to it, as DJ Apeman played many of the hit songs on the music charts at the time the class of 1989 was in school.
