The diocesan Bishop, Callist Rubaramira, noted that fundraising for the project, is an act of togetherness and love for God and the diocese

In commemoration of the 50 years of Kabale Diocese, the diocese has embarked on a fundraising drive named the golden jubilee office project, to raise Sh500m, for the establishment of a multipurpose church office block.

Founded in 1966, Kabale diocese in July celebrated 50 years at Rushoroza Cathedral grounds in Kabale under the theme; re-awakening our catholic identity and commitment.

Papal nuncio Michael Blume, the Pope's representative to Uganda, was the main celebrant during the mass organized at the cathedral.

As part of the activities to celebrate the 50 years of the diocese, the Kabale catholic community in Kampala organized a fundraising dinner where resources to fund the construction of a modern building to house different administration departments for the diocese, were collected.

"We launched this project in July 2016, during the main celebrations. The reason we are putting up this building is that we don't have enough office space, the offices are scattered and most of them are dilapidated," Narcis Rwangoga, the chairman Kigezi Kampala Catholic Residents Association (KKCRA) said.

He made the remarks over the weekend, at Pope Paul memorial Hotel in Kampala during fundraising dinner organized by KKCRA to collect funds for the project.

According to Rwangoga, the project whose works are yet to begin is expected to be complete in July next year.

The diocesan Bishop, Callist Rubaramira, noted that fundraising for the project, is an act of togetherness and love for God and the diocese.

"When we celebrated 50 years in July, we said what do we do as a symbol for our celebrations of the jubilee, so we got an idea of the golden jubilee office project," Bishop Rubaramira said.

Officiating at the fundraising, Gabriel Ajedral, the finance minister in charge of general duties commended the diocese for the project which he said will ease the church's work.

Pledging 50 bags of cement, to help in kick starting the foundation for the office block, the minister also contributed Sh1m during the fundraising.

The fundraising dinner was attended by several bigwigs including the inspector general of Police Gen Kale Kayihura, MPs, ministers, bankers, and Kampala businessmen hailing from Kigezi. At the event, over Sh50 million was raised towards the project.

The diocese has held similar fundraising meetings in Kabale, where millions of Shillings have been collected.
