SC Villa wins Independence Cup

Villa win it late against Bright Stars to emerge victors.

Substitute Umaru Kasumba scored twice as SC Villa beat Bright Stars FC 2-1 to lift this year's Independence Cup at Nakivubo Stadium on Sunday.

Jackson Kibirige scored the only goal for Bright Stars in a game watched by Villa boss Ben Misagga.

A dull opening period eventually burst into life when Villa heaped pressure on their opponents but could not make it count.

Ahead of the resumption of the premier league, both sides rested some of their key players as the first half ended goalless.

After the interval, Villa introduced Kasumba on the hour mark and captain Mike Serumagga.

And the reforms created an impact as Kasumba headed Villa in front before Kibirige leveled matters three minutes later after poor clearance by the defenders.

Villa did not sit back however and pressed on, eventually finding the winner with one minute to spare.

It was Kasumba's first goals for his side in all competitions this season and he will be hoping to carry on with such form in league action.
