"The biggest challenge we are now facing is the grabbing and selling of Muslim land," the Mufti said.

The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has warned individuals involved in attempts to sell or grab Muslim land, saying they will face "serious consequences".

In a statement issued by Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) spokesperson, Hajj Nsereko Mutumba, on Friday, Mubajje said land grabbing was the biggest problem they were facing.

"The biggest challenge we are now facing is the grabbing and selling of Muslim land," the Mufti said.

He, however, assured Muslims that his administration will do everything in its powers to recover and protect Muslim land wherever it is in Uganda.

He appealed to all Muslims to report any attempted sell or grabbing of Muslim land to UMSC so that necessary action is taken.

The Mufti directed all Muslim leaders to identify and register Muslim land in their respective areas so that it can be developed.

He particularly called for the setting up of commercial structures on urban based land and setting up of farms and tree planting projects on rural based land for Waqf.

Waqf is an endowment made by a Muslim to a religious, educational, or charitable cause.

Developments
On other UMSC developments, the Mufti said that as a result of the prevailing Muslim unity, over 3000 Mosques, boreholes, health centres and schools had been constructed country wide in the past 15 years.

He said these include the recently constructed Mosque in Kiyunga which has also got a bore hole.

The Mufti later gave out copies of Islamic literature including Holy Qurans and Yassarnal-Qurʼān to the delegation from Kigogola in Mukono district that had paid him a courtesy call at UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala.
