IAAF releases 2017 World Cross Country program

Relays will be making their debut at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships

Next year's IAAF World Cross Country Championships will start at 2pm on 26th March, the International Association of Athletics Federation has confirmed.

The programme for the event was released at a press briefing held at Lugogo on Friday by the Local Organising Committee.

"We are happy to note that so far everything is going on well and we have had two successful visits by IAAF delegates who have advised us on improvement of some of the areas so as to create a better and memorable championships"  Charles Bakkabulindi the Local Organizing Committee chairman said.

"We now know that the actual competition of this event will start at 2pm with the relays that will be making their debut at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships" he said.

The relay will see each country present two male and two female athletes and they will be running one loop (lap), which is approximately 2km each.

The full programme will see the  mixed relays being run at 2pm, and they will be followed by the 6km junior women race  (2:30pm),  8km junior women (3:10pm),  10km senior women (2:55pm),  10km senior men at 4:55 and the 4km corporate race which will crown the event at 6pm.

"So we now know what we are planning for the event," added Bakkabulindi.

Bakkabulindi also said that the Local Organizing Committee will also be participating in the Kampala Festival and will have a tent at Esso Corner, where all information concerning the event will be given to the public.
