Lweza 0 Vipers 1

At Wankulukuku drumming and Vuvuzela-blowing fans took centre stage as Vipers registered a confidence building 1-0 win over Lweza.

Erisa Ssekisambu's first half strike after a good exchange with Tony Odur ensured Vipers won the Wankulukuku derby watched by a mammoth crowd from both set of fans in a drizzle that lasted the whole match.

Despite defending very well, Lweza lacked the cutting edge upfront where strikers Karim Ndugwa and James Kasibante hardly troubled James Alitho in Vipers' goal.

In the end Vipers should have won convincingly but substitute William Wadri missed easy scoring chances in the dying minutes, twice rounding up the goalkeeper but shooting against the cross bar and outside with the goal at his mercy.

Vipers coach Abdallah Mubiru welcomed the win and was all praise for midfielder Hassan Wasswa whose calm approach and game reading in midfield gave the Vipers a new dimension.

"It was an important victory for us and our fans and also for our confidence which had gone down following the previous loss to Express.

Wasswa played well as expected and the whole team has gained confidence because of his presence," Mubiru stated.

His counterpart Ibrahim Kirya conceded defeat and admitted they lost to a better side.

Referee David Ouga later had to cool tempers after Ssekisambu and Lweza defender Asuman Buyinza were involved in a brawl.

The match also marked the return of infamous referee Robert Donney who was the fourth official.
