The Kampala Lord Mayor criticised the cabinet committee of Parliament for wasting tax payers’ money

The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has vowed to resist government's move to amend the KCCA Act because it is intended to curb his powers.

The KCCA Act vests governance powers in the Authority presided over by the Lord Mayor as a supreme organ but currently the Bill is before the cabinet committee to be reviewed in order to reduce these powers.

"Should they be tempted to proceed with those arrangements, they will be setting the stage for yet another round of battles which would be very unfortunate" Lukwago said.

"We want to settle down and engage in developmental activities, we want to work with one another within the Authority" he added.

Lukwago criticized the committee saying they are only wasting tax payers' money because the move is interfering with the sovereignty of the people to elect their leader which they are not going to allow.

"We are not going to agree on issues of tinkering with the law to entrench one man's rule; that is totally unacceptable.

We are not going to allow the manipulation of laws to do away with the sovereignty of the people in Kampala and entrench bad governance" Lukwago said.
