Twelve men were killed on September 9, 1977 by firing squad at the Clock Tower three days after their conviction by a military tribunal on charges of treason.
The men were said to have planned to overthrow the government of Idi Amin.
Those killed were John Kabandize, former Senior Superintendent of Prisons in charge of Mubuku prison farm, E. N. Mutabazi, former Superintendent of Prisons, prison headquarters, Peter Atua, former Principal Officer, Murchison Bay prison, Luzira, Daniel Nsereko, former Assistant Commissioner of Police and under-secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lt. Ben Ogwang, former Military Intelligence officer Malire regiment, Y. Y. Okot, former Chief Inspector of Schools, Ministry of Education and John Leji Olobo, former Senior Industrial Relations officer, Ministry of Labour.
Others were Elias Okidi-menya, former General Manager, Lake Victoria Bottling Company, Abdalla Anyuru, former chairman of the Uganda Public Service Commission, Ben Ongom, a businessman, Julius Peter Adupa, former teacher at Lira Polytechnic Institute and Garison S. Anono, former principal, Bobi Foundation School.
