Uganda will field a full team at the ongoing 42nd World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The team is scheduled to launch its quest for the title in the fourth round and this is after National Council of Sports (NCS) bailed them out with six air tickets over the weekend.

Earlier, UCF had managed to raise tickets for two players, Phiona Mutesi and Grace Kigeni who went on separate days.

"It was a great relief because it would make no sense having to field just two people who were also not competing because the rules call for a minimum of four players to be paired for any round," UCF's General Secretary Christopher Turyahawe stated.

"Our hands are tied and we have to leave out Christine Namaganda and Emmanuel Mwaka who were our reserve team," he added.

In the fourth round on Monday, Mutesi and Kigeni will team up with Joyce Kabengano, WFM Gorretti Angolikin who arrived Baku on Sunday ahead of their game against Antonio Guillen, Daniel Colindres, Gavarrete Nahun and Huguet Sergio from Honduras.

In the men's side, Simon Gonza and Farouk Fauza will be making their first attempt at the Olympiads as they team-up with Harold Wanyama and Patrick Kawuma to take on Mohamed Hassan, Ahmed Ashraf, Abdul Rahman and Muhammed Shuaau of Maldives.
