The games will also be played at shopping malls to create awareness

Basketball fans will have more to cheer about when the FUBA 3 on 3 Club Championships tips off on September 2.

According to FUBA vice president-administration Nasser Sserunjogi, the tournament will involve all interested FUBA registered clubs and teams from all divisions in both the men and women categories.

Interested clubs will upon registration with FUBA 3X3 technical director Hamza Nyambogo and Competition Council chairman Joseph Manano between now and August 30 meet to discuss modalities.

Each team will be required to sign a team of 5 players (men) and a maximum of three players for the ladies teams each.

"The ladies will have an option of registering 2 teams per club if they so wish to do so," Sserunjogi stated.

Last month, the Makerere University ladies team lifted the All Africa University 3×3 Champions in Johannesburg beating Zimbabwe 19:17 in overtime, at the 8th All Africa University Games at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in South Africa.

During the launch of this year's National Basketball League FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya hinted on starting 3x3 games as a way of creating more entertainment around league games.

"We are trying to promote the 3x3 to ensure its development because FIBA World wants to put the game as the social entertainment of basketball, so we want to ensure that these games are played alongside the league," Tashobya said then.

He said the 3x3 games will also be played at shopping malls to create more awareness and marketing of the sport.
