Women 5000m semi-final

Uganda's Juliet Chekwel says she can still make up for her miscalculation in the 10000m by putting up a good run in the women 5000m semi-final on Tuesday.

Chekwel will be competing together with Stella Chesang and after her performance in her first race, where she failed to finish because of a miscalculation, she is more focussed to try and go all the way to the finals.

She had mistaken the bell for another competitor to think that she was finishing the race, finishing a lap before, yet she was in position to rewrite the national record.

"That was so sad but I have to  get over it and concentrate, I will go out and try my level best to see to it that I start by qualifying for the final," said Chekwel.

She insisted that she was not yet worn out but only sad because of a mistake she would have avoided.

She will be competing in heat one of the race, with Chesang competing in the second heat at her first international event of such a magnitude.

"They are all focussed on getting the best options to qualify for the final and this means that they have to finish amongst the top five," said their coach Giuseppe Giambrone.

Chesang will be competing with Olympic 10000m gold medallist and world record holder in the same distance Almaz Ayana, who will be seeking a double and deny Kenya another medal in the long distance track event.
